Glan-Y-Gors Round 5, June 2009

Qualifying > I immediately set the pace at the beginning of qualifying, with a 44.02 on my 4th lap. This was my fastest lap although I came close to it on my last lap with a 44.03. I was 3 tenths up on the closest driver, Jacob Hunstone (no.33) who qualified 2nd with a 44.36. Lincoln Newby (no.67) qualified 3rd with a 44.86.

Heat 1 > I started on pole for the first heat. I had a good start and quickly broke away from the pack, finishing 6.81 seconds ahead of Liam Kelly (no.27), who was followed by Lincoln Newby in third. I set the fastest lap with a 44.23.

Heat 2 > I started on pole for the next heat. It rained about 10 minutes before the start of the heat and there was a mad rush to change everything on the kart. We made it to the grid on time and had blistering pace, pulling away at around 8 tenths a lap, until my wheel came loose on lap 9! I slowed down and nursed my kart around the track, and on the last lap, 2nd placed Jacob Hunstone (no.33) passed me. I managed to get around most of the lap when the wheel suddenly flew off, leaving me on the grass. I jumped out of my kart and pulled it completely off the track, wishing my wheel could have stayed on for another few corners! This left me with a DNF and a destroyed wheel rim, which my dad wasn't all that happy about. Nevertheless, I had set the fastest lap with a 48.95.

Final > I started in 4th place for the final. I had a good start and by lap 3 had taken the lead, pulling away by around a second a lap to take the win by 17.39 seconds! Jacob Hunstone finished second and Ed Williams (no.93) finished 3rd. I set the fastest lap with a 51.30.
