Glan-Y-Gors Round 2, March 2009
Qualifying > For the start of qualifying I rehearsed my lines and then quickly pulled a lap together of 43.95, although it was not enough to secure pole. After another few laps I tried again, and set a blistering 43.47. It was enough to put me on 2nd spot for the first heat, as on the same lap, Ollie Varney (no.12) set a 43.30. Jacob Hunstone (no.33) finished third on a 43.56.
Heat 1 > I started from 2nd spot in the first heat. For the first few laps the positions stayed the same at the front, although on lap 2 I made a move on Ollie Varney to take the lead. This I held for the next three laps, although on lap 5, Jacob Hunstone made a move coming into the spoon, and pushed me wide. I dropped down into 3rd place, behind both Ollie and Jacob. This is where I finished, setting the fastest lap of a 43.59.
Heat 2 > In the second heat I had a bad start, with the outside row jumping the start. I managed to hold 3rd place, and as we raced down the straight I managed to just catch Ollie Varney. Going up the kink at the top of the straight, I made a move on the exit, although Ollie moved across. I had nowhere to go, apart from straight on into the marshal box, so I held my line as best as I could, but we collided and this resulted in me spinning around very quickly in the air at just over 65mph! As I came to a rest, I realised my tyre was off the rim, so I couldn't rejoin the race. Ollie's exhaust had come loose, resulting in a DNF from him too. Jacob Hunstone won this heat, followed by Liam Kelly (no.27) and Patrick Fletcher (no.29).
Final > Because of my Heat 2 DNF, I started 10th for the final. I had a good start, and made my way up to 6th place after the first lap. Suddenly, I was struck with some sort of intermittent electrical problem, and this dropped me back down to 9th place. Miraculously this cured itself, and allowed me to re-pass William Blackwell-Chambers (no.43) who then hit me very hard at the next corner, taking me off the track. This dropped me to 13th place, nearly last, although I re-joined and made my way back to 8th place, which is where I finished.
