Glan-Y-Gors Round 1, February 2009

Qualifying > I went out last for the start of the qualifying. After a few laps spent to warm up the engine and tyres, (it was around 0°C all day) I went for it and posted a 44.62, which put me in 2nd. I slowed down for a few laps then went at it again and I set a 44.13, which was enough to put me on pole for the first heat, as Jacob Huntstone (no.33) and Liam Kelly (no.27) could not better their times. Even still, I went quicker again with a 43.72 which was my fastest lap.

Heat 1 > I started on pole for the first heat and instantly pulled out a gap of 0.8 seconds on the first lap. From then on I worked hard to maintain the gap and I finished 2.92 seconds ahead of Jacob, who was followed by Lewis Seville (no.98). I set the fastest lap of a 43.99.

Heat 2 > I started on pole for the second and final heat of the day. I set off at a fairly consistent pace, bringing down my laptimes by about 1-2 tenths a lap, and on the last lap set the fastest lap of a 43.84. Something interesting about this heat is that I finished 3.33 seconds ahead of number 33 (Jacob Huntstone)!!

Final > To finish up the rather cold day, I headed the grid for the final, and immediately made an impression on the rest of the field, with about a 1 second lead after the first lap, more than likely due to the battling for positions behind me. I carried on and got quicker and quicker until I set the fastest lap of the race with a 43.77. Towards the end I eased off slightly and won by 3.38 seconds.
