Glan-Y-Gors Round 3, April 2008
Qualifying > I started in front of Stevie Hargreaves (no.46) and Joe Charlton (no.51), also from JJR Motorsport, and we decided to work as a 3 around the track, in the hope of getting faster lap times for all 3 of us. We started off well, covering the first three positions until, out of nowhere, Tony Davies (no.20) posted a fast lap, 4 hundredths of a second quicker than me, and I could not better it as it soon started hailing heavily and the track was covered in hailstones, so we slithered about until the end of the session, eventually me finishing second, Joe 4th and Stevie 6th.
Heat 1 > I started 2nd in this heat, because of qualifying. The pole man, Tony Davies (no.20) peeled off onto a different part of the track on the rolling lap, having only been to GYG to practice, he had no idea, but could not re catch the pack, so eventually retired. I had a good start and led from start to finish, my fastest lap a 43.93.
Heat 2 > I started on pole for this heat, because of my heat 1 win. I had a good start and Joe Charlton (no.51) wasn't very far away from me, so I had to push hard and hold my position, but as it turned out he was a bit further away than I thought, and my fastest lap was a 44.07.
Final > I started on pole for the final, and at the start slowed the grid down to slower than walking pace, and tried to get a good start for me and Joe (no.51). It worked, but a bit too well! Joe took first place on the first corner, and I was demoted to second down the straight, but as he tried to settle down into a rhythm, I made a pass going into the second corner at the end of the long straight, sliding back into first, and then it was nose to tail until the finish, me making a few gains through the twistier corners, because of the higher gearing I ran in the final, and Joe making the time back up down the straight because of a longer gearing. I just about finished first, with Joe a bit further back after being caught behind some backmarkers, my fastest lap a 43.89.
